Neuro-Linguistic Programming
What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic programming. This highly descriptive name is purely descriptive.
NLP is the powerful and practical approach to personal change. Its an owners manual 'for your brain'.
Neuro refers to our nervous system to do with out five senses - see, hear, feel, taste and smell.
Linguistic refers to our ability to use language and how words we use mirror our mental image. It also refers to our 'silent language' of postures, gestures and habits that reveal our thinking styles, beliefs and more.
Programming is borrowed from computer science to suggest our thoughts, feelings and actions to update our own software.
So now that we have got the jargon out of the way how can it help you?
Our brains can't tell the difference between what is real and what we are imagining! This is why we have fear. We imagine what could happen and we start to feel scared even though there is nothing to be scared of as nothing is actually happening to us.
So my job as a coach is to understand why you are thinking a certain way and find ways to change that. For example someone may have a fear of flying and at the mention of going somewhere in an aeroplane it may get them to see pictures of themselves panicing in the aeroplane. This will invite internal chatter giving themselves negative feelings and a real sense of fear and anxiety.
These symtoms happen just by thinking about the event, as our brain cant tell the difference between what it imagines and what is reality.
When working with you I can help you change your manufactured negative images and make them positive ones i.e if you imagine yourself sitting comfortabbly on the aeroplane with your tunes plugged in and your favorite tipple in your hand you will become that person!
